Welcome to my website, where you can see examples of my work and connect to my Etsy shop.
I have been making textile pieces to live with for almost two decades and I love what I do.
All of my rugs and mats are completely handmade and I use only fabric that I find, that is, vintage, old, recycled, re-purposed. My roving work is often locally sourced and milled wool, some within 10 miles of my studio. The core of my work is a focused, heartfelt effort to address the growing mounds of textile waste in our landfills by using existing
materials rather than buying new, which only furthers demand. (It is also challenging, and I must admit, fun to hunt for just that right red to finish a rug.)
But also, choosing to use "old" fabrics is a way to reflect on the spirit and roots of handmade home goods. Until relatively recently, fabric was expensive, hard to come by, and would have been carefully used and reused for clothing and necessary household items. Only when completely worn beyond other uses were fabric relegated to the rag bag for rugs, quilts, decorative items. My use of already existing fabric is a nod to the creative spirit and origins of this women's work.
Each of my rugs and mats is made with patience, skill, and with traditional techniques; each is unique in design and fabric. I also aim to make a good looking article that will bring years of enjoyment, as it becomes an heirloom.
